ARTISTS IN MASKS

Artists in Masks Residence in time of Covid-19 is a project that has evolved from listening to local leaders speak about the urgent need for masks, and learning about the incredible organizations and individuals who have committed their time to provide this kind of protection during the pandemic.

COPE NYC is aligning our mission to bridge communities through creative projects by focusing on those communities impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. COPE NYC is producing masks for community of all ages. In addition, we are extending our PPE production by helping Les Downtown, Fashion Week Brooklyn, and Brooklyn Style Foundation with their mask making mission. We are offering our space and extended help to designers who are distributing to businesses and individuals in need, including healthcare professionals. Thank you to these organizations for reaching out to us during this time.

Artists in Masks is here to help make masks using CDC guidelines, including, but not limited to, social distancing, hand washing, and use of protective gear.

We also want to provide a similar creative platform for students who are home practicing remote learning.

OPEN CALL for Students to Design Masks is open for students of all ages.

As New York City students practice remote learning and their professors and teachers create a curriculum to meet the standards during the current health emergency, Artists in Masks invites students to participate in a project to help their fellow New Yorkers’ by providing opportunities for them to design virtual masks.

We need protection with masks from this dangerous disease. Students can help designers who are working hard to produce needed masks with their creative ingenuity. Their voices are essential and we hope this platform can help provide an outlet for them while helping the community.

  • Designing masks can be integrated within existing curricula, or enrichment curricula, to emphasize the importance of students’ ideas in a time of crisis.

  • Teachers and Professors will select designs to submit.

  • Students will receive a virtual recognition.

  • Ten students’ designs will be chosen by PPE Designers and each will receive a $50 gift card.

  • In light of students’ difficulties in having computer and internet access, COPE NYC is open to all methods for teachers to receive designs from students.

Educators can submit virtual mask designs and 50-word student statements to Vida@copenyc.org.
